A significant increase in drug-related overdoses & deaths across B.C. prompted Provincial Health Officer Dr. Perry Kendall to declare a public health emergency April 2016.

More than a quarter million visits to Island Health overdose prevention and supervised consumption sites

Island Health is observing more than 250,000 visits to supervised consumption and overdose prevention sites – more than 1,000 reversed overdoses and zero deaths while at the same time delivering more supports and services to people who are using drugs and for people who are ready to begin a recovery journey.

Province to launch catch-up immunization program to protect against measles

The Province is launching a measles immunization catch-up program to help B.C. families ensure their children are protected from measles. The program will run from April through June 2019.
